About this treatment
Composite is a tooth-colored material that bonds to the tooth surface. We use it to treat cavities, rebuild chipped teeth, close small gaps and restore worn edges. It is shaped directly in the mouth, usually in a single visit, and polished so it blends in with your natural teeth.
When is composite used?
Cavities
We remove the decay and fill it with tooth-colored composite.
Chipped teeth
We rebuild small and medium fractures.
Worn edges
We restore the shape and length of the front teeth.
Small gaps
We close gaps between teeth without drilling them.
Spots and defects
We cover marks that whitening can't remove.
Maintenance
We polish and renew old composites so they look good again.
How a composite filling is done
Evaluation
We examine the tooth and, if needed, request an X-ray to see how deep the decay is.
Preparation
With local anesthesia when needed, we remove decay or prepare the surface.
Layered composite
We apply the composite in layers and cure it with light.
Shape and polish
We adjust the bite and polish so it looks and feels natural.
